Poetry: I Remember

I Remember

He stands
Tall, upright.
Wizened but not old.
Clear voice,
Warm smile
As ever
I remember.

We listen,
Rapt attention.
His voice hushes.
His heart warms.
Giving to us
As ever
I remember.

I have seen him
Cold and shaking.
Pale and quiet.
The warm is fading,
Clear no longer.

The storm is outside,
Bitter cold.
Salt in the rain.
Darkness settling
On the man,
Quiet, cold and fading.

But that is not him.
Forever in memory
He is tall, upright.
Wizened.
Clear and warm.
As ever
I remember.
